A new ZSI FTM center in Brest, France

On April 26, 2017, we inaugurated the CHU clinic in Brest, France. Professor Weiguo Hu, head of the Department of Reconstructive and Cosmetic Plastic Surgery at CHU La Cavale Blanche, and his team placed their first ZSI 100 FTM malleable penile implant.

The patient contacted us before the surgery, and we had a chance to talk over his expectations and choose his prothesis.

We met at 9 a.m. in the morning in the operating room. The patient was relaxed. He was given general and spinal anesthesia for the procedure. Prof. Hu had previously performed a phalloplasty of 17 cm on the patient with very good results. We began by inserting a catheter into the bladder. Then we made a small lateral incision on the left side, away from the right-side pedicle. The pubic symphysis was liberated without difficulty. Afterward, we began the dilation process, beginning with the Hegar dilator size 8 and ending with the size 23. The total length of the phalloplasty plus the base attached to the pubis was 19 cm. An implant of 20 cm was selected and reduced to 19 cm. After thorough irrigation of the surgical area with antibiotics, the implant was introduced. The glans was positioned in its place. Fortunately the crown of the implant’s glans corresponded with the crown delineated in the skin of the phalloplasty. Proceeding, the implant was attached using six Mitek-type anchors. We confirmed once more that these anchors are suitable for this type of surgery, simplifying considerably the attachment to the pubis. After the procedure, the penis looked really impressive (sorry we can’t show images). Prof. Hu finished with a closure at several points.
