The team of surgeons specializing in phalloplasty at\u00a0CHU H\u00f4pitaux de Bordeaux\u00a0<\/a>(Hospital of Bordeaux in France)\u2014Dr. Casoli, Prof. Capon, Dr. Bondaz, Dr. Weigert\u2014has begun utilizing Mitek anchors to attach ZSI FTM implants to the bone. If the surgeon can \u201ceasily\u201d access the bone (that is, if the cortical layers are well-exposed and not too dense), it\u2019s possible to attach an \u201canchor.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Dr. Casoli, of CHU Bordeaux, explains:<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe anchor is a \u2018simple\u2019 device, which allows the implantation of a biocompatible metal into the bone. Thanks to its composition, this anchor affixes itself to the bone. A cable is placed in the anchor, and with a needle coupled to the cable, one can suture (apply) structures like tendons, ligaments, or as in this case, the penile implant attached to the bone substrate.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe anchoring allows the attachment of the penile implant\u2019s base to be strong, effective and quick, in contact with the ischial bone. There\u2019s much less risk of \u2018suture release,\u2019 guaranteeing a more secure attachment.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe anchor is easier to place than any other type of attachment and much more effective. This is a big evolution in surgical technique for the insertion of inflatable penile implants.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n
